General Coordinator (Head of Mission) – Humanitarian

About the role

The General Coordinator (Head of Mission) leads Médecins du Monde’s operations in Ethiopia, overseeing a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of primary health care, maternal health, sexual and reproductive health rights, mental health support, and nutrition programmes. The role combines strategic growth, advocacy, fundraising and crisis management to expand and sustain the mission.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, train, manage and motivate a diverse mission team, including finance, HR, field, logistics and medical coordinators.
• Define and implement operational and advocacy strategies together with the coordination team and volunteer board.
• Plan, monitor and adjust activities, providing technical support and corrective actions as needed.
• Represent Médecins du Monde with authorities, partners, donors and media, and develop new partnerships.
• Lead fundraising initiatives, manage the mission budget and ensure financial coverage.
• Draft, adapt and enforce safety regulations, coordinate crisis management and ensure compliance with programme frameworks.
• Supervise reporting to Médecins du Monde headquarters and donors.

Required profile

• Higher education in project management, humanitarian aid, development or a related field.
• Extensive experience in managing large‑scale humanitarian or health programmes.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of fundraising, budget management and donor relations.
• Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
