Public Information Intern

About the role

The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary‑General for the Great Lakes Region is seeking a Public Information Intern to support its communications activities from its Addis Ababa office. The role will contribute to the promotion of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework and related UN initiatives in the Great Lakes area.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and edit press releases, newsletter articles, blog posts and social‑media content.
• Prepare meeting materials, take minutes and assist in organizing seminars and events.
• Create multimedia products such as infographics, motion graphics, short videos, publication covers, presentation templates and event flyers.
• Develop professional PowerPoint decks highlighting division projects, publications and activities.
• Support video production, including shooting, editing, sound mixing and slide‑show animation.
• Conduct background research for public information materials and undertake special projects as assigned.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate programme in international relations, political science, economics, development, public administration or a related field.
• Strong written communication skills in English.
• Ability to work full‑time (40 hours/week) for a six‑month period.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Basic video‑editing capabilities.
