Anesthetist – Hospital-based Position in Addis Ababa

About the role

The Anesthetist will deliver comprehensive anesthesia services for surgical and diagnostic procedures in a hospital setting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This full‑time, on‑site position involves pre‑operative assessment, planning and execution of anesthesia techniques, and close monitoring of patients throughout the peri‑operative period.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough pre‑operative assessments and develop individualized anesthesia plans.
• Administer both general and regional anesthesia safely for a wide range of procedures.
• Monitor patients continuously during surgery and manage post‑operative recovery.
• Participate in critical care management, including stabilization of unstable patients.
• Provide effective postoperative pain control and address anesthesia‑related emergencies.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and academic activities within the department.

Required profile

• Medical degree with recognized formal training in anesthesia and appropriate licensure.
• Strong foundation in anesthesiology and medicine, capable of handling diverse patient populations.
• Competence in general anesthesia techniques and a variety of regional anesthesia methods.
• Experience or training in critical care medicine and peri‑operative monitoring.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and adherence to clinical guidelines.
• Effective communication, teamwork, and documentation skills in a high‑demand clinical environment.
