Advocacy Officer – Maternity Cover (Addis Ababa)

About the role

Save the Children International is seeking an Advocacy Officer on a maternity‑cover basis to join its Global Diplomacy and Engagement team in Addis Ababa. The role will focus on influencing African Union institutions to protect and advance children’s rights, especially for children affected by armed conflict.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic engagement with key AU bodies, notably the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC).
• Collaborate with AU departments such as Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Health, Humanitarian Affairs, Social Development, and Education, Science, Technology and Innovation to support their mandates.
• Promote the implementation and accountability of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
• Champion child protection and welfare in conflict and crisis settings across the continent.
• Build and maintain partnerships with AU member states, civil society, regional networks and development partners.

Required profile

• Right to work in Ethiopia for the contract duration.
• Proven experience in advocacy, policy analysis or child rights, preferably within African regional contexts.
• Strong understanding of AU structures and mechanisms related to child welfare.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Willingness to travel internationally up to 20% of the time.
