Anesthetist / Clinical Anesthesia Officer

About the role

The Anesthetist / Clinical Anesthesia Officer provides safe and effective anesthesia care for patients undergoing surgery and other procedures at CURE Children’s Hospital of Ethiopia. The role involves pre‑operative assessment, intra‑operative management, and post‑operative monitoring, serving patients regardless of their ability to pay.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑operative assessments and document findings in patient records.
• Notify senior medical staff of any patient instability before, during, or after anesthesia.
• Explain anesthesia plans and risks to patients and answer their questions.
• Check and prepare the anesthesia machine, suction, oxygen supply, airway devices, and medications before each case.
• Provide monitoring and care for procedures using local, regional, sedation, or general anesthesia.
• Deliver resuscitative support in other hospital units as needed.

Required profile

• Medical degree with appropriate anesthesia certification.
• Experience in peri‑operative anesthesia care.
• Ability to assess patients pre‑operatively and recognize instability.
• Strong communication skills for patient counseling.
