Business Development Lead

About the role

The Business Development Lead is responsible for turning Plan International Ethiopia’s strategic vision into concrete actions across the Business Development function. Based in Addis Ababa, this full‑time, on‑site position drives growth, donor engagement and high‑quality proposal development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Business Development team to embed strategic objectives into daily operations and ensure alignment with the organization’s overall strategy.
• Conduct regular funding pipeline and gap analyses to support evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Plan, coordinate and manage proposal development processes in partnership with Thematic Sector Leads and the Program Insight Lead.
• Foster strategic relationships with donors and partners to secure grants and expand the programme portfolio.

Required profile

• Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Social Studies, Marketing, Economics, International Relations or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in business development, grant management or donor engagement, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strong understanding of donor landscapes, funding mechanisms and multi‑sectoral humanitarian and development interventions.
• Proven track record in leading program design, proposal development and donor relationship management.
• Excellent proposal writing and communication skills.
