Climate and Nature Programme & Policy Officer

About the role

The British Embassy in Ethiopia is seeking a Climate and Nature Programme & Policy Officer to support the UK’s partnership with Ethiopia ahead of COP32. The role sits within the Climate, Economic, Trade and Investment Team and will combine technical policy advice with programme leadership, overseeing a portfolio of climate and nature initiatives worth over £1 million.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of the Embassy’s Climate and Nature Country Business Plan, including the Carbon Accelerator Fund.
• Provide high‑quality technical advice on climate finance, carbon markets, forest policy and international climate negotiations.
• Manage programme suppliers and delivery partners, ensuring compliance with FCDO frameworks.
• Run the secretariat for the Climate Finance Taskforce under the CRGE Forum, shaping agendas and driving actions.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with government, donors, NGOs and private‑sector stakeholders to advance COP32 outcomes.
• Support UK climate diplomacy, prepare briefings for senior officials and contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience working on climate and nature policy, especially climate finance.
• Strong analytical ability and experience presenting complex information clearly.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good understanding of Ethiopian climate and nature policy frameworks.
• Ability to work flexibly, multitask and adapt to emerging priorities.
