Economic Affairs Intern

About the role

The Economic Affairs Intern will work in the Connectivity and Infrastructure Development Section of the Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa. The three‑month full‑time internship offers practical experience in research, event coordination and policy development related to energy, water and data‑centre infrastructure across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Assist Section officers in analytical research on energy, water and data centres, including literature review, data collection and preparation of summaries.
• Support the organization of webinars and training activities by handling participant outreach, drafting agendas, preparing background materials and managing logistical and technical arrangements.
• Contribute to the development of a guideline for data‑centre development in Africa through background research, review of best practices, compilation of case studies and support for consultations with member states and stakeholders.
• Help draft, review and refine policy recommendations on digital and energy infrastructure, cybersecurity, skills development and regulatory frameworks for sustainable data‑centre ecosystems.
• Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Section or Division.

Required profile

• Enrollment in or completion of a graduate programme, or final year of a bachelor’s degree programme.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French or another UN official language is an advantage.
