Economic Affairs Officer – Regional Integration

About the role

The Economic Affairs Officer will support the Regional Integration and Trade Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Reporting to the Chief of the Regional Integration and Economic Diversification Section, the officer will contribute to policy analysis, intergovernmental support, and technical cooperation on regional integration, trade and industrialisation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct economic and sector analysis, develop socio‑economic databases, and prepare policy papers on regional and global trade integration.
• Provide intergovernmental support by preparing inputs for reports, summarising meetings, and organising panels or round‑tables.
• Participate in technical‑cooperation missions, organise training seminars for national experts, and monitor implementation of projects.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in economics or a related field; a PhD is an advantage.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research, policy formulation, and work on regional integration, industrialisation, trade or value‑chains.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French is desirable.
