Gender and Safeguarding Manager

About the role

SOS Children’s Villages in Ethiopia is seeking a Gender and Safeguarding Manager to lead the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the i‑Work programme’s gender and safeguarding framework. The role ensures that programmes are gender‑transformative, disability‑inclusive and adhere to the highest standards of youth safeguarding.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and safeguarding strategies across all programme pillars.
• Integrate GESI principles into programme design, delivery and evaluation.
• Build the capacity of staff and partners on gender, safeguarding and survivor‑centred approaches.
• Establish robust mechanisms for reporting, responding to and preventing abuse, exploitation and harm.
• Ensure compliance with SOS Children’s Villages safeguarding policies, Code of Conduct and anti‑misconduct regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and support to project teams to embed gender‑transformative and protective measures.

Required profile

• Proven experience in gender equality, social inclusion and child/youth safeguarding within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of GESI concepts, disability inclusion and survivor‑centred protection.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with international donors, government agencies and community organisations.

Required skills

• Knowledge of gender mainstreaming and safeguarding standards.
• Experience designing and delivering capacity‑building workshops.
• Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation tools for GESI and protection.
