Health Officer

About the role

The Health Officer will lead planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of emergency health interventions across health facilities, outreach sites and community settings. The role ensures delivery of quality primary health care, strengthens disease prevention and outbreak response, and supports capacity building of health workers in line with national guidelines and project objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient medical consultations, manage acute and chronic illnesses, and refer patients as needed.
• Deliver maternal, newborn and child health services including ANC, PNC, delivery care, family planning and immunization activities.
• Conduct training, on‑job coaching and supportive supervision for health workers, HEWs and community volunteers.
• Support disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, detection, reporting and response, and promote community awareness on epidemic‑prone diseases.
• Assess and ensure availability of essential medicines, IPC materials and HMIS tools, and supervise infection prevention and control practices.

Required profile

• Medical doctor with a minimum of three years relevant experience in clinical care, maternal‑child health and public health emergency management.
• Previous experience (at least 3 years) in risk identification, outbreak detection, OPD consultation, ICCM/IMNCI, and supply chain management.
• Willingness to travel frequently to project sites and work closely with local health offices and community structures.

Required skills

• Outpatient and inpatient medical consultation following national treatment protocols.
• Implementation of IMNCI and ICCM guidelines for child health.
• Maternal and newborn care including ANC, PNC, delivery and family planning counseling.
• Immunization (EPI) activities and routine outreach vaccination.
• Disease surveillance, outbreak response and infection prevention and control (IPC) practices.
