Midwifery Nurse (MHNT) – Afdem, Ethiopia

About the role

The Midwifery Nurse will support Save the Children’s emergency programmes in Afar, focusing on accountability to beneficiaries and community empowerment. Working closely with the MEAL Coordinator, the role ensures quality health and nutrition services and gathers feedback to improve project impact.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate mobile health and nutrition activities, including site selection and weekly movement planning.
• Provide basic health and nutrition services such as community ANC, family planning, IMNCI/ICCM, safe motherhood, emergency referrals, health education, and EPI according to MOH guidelines.
• Facilitate the supply of essential drugs, therapeutic products, and training for health posts, centres, and hospitals.
• Organise daily, weekly and monthly reports on ANC, FP, EPI, health education and consultations, ensuring accurate data submission to Woreda project officers.
• Mentor and support Health Extension Workers (HEWs) in clinical decision‑making and referral of high‑risk patients.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor degree in Midwifery.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience, with at least two years in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) programmes.
• Clinical experience in maternal and child health settings is mandatory.
• Ability to work closely with MOH staff and community health workers.
