People & Finance Assistant

About the role

The People & Finance Assistant supports both People & Culture and Finance functions at the IRC field office in Assosa. This junior position ensures compliance with IRC policies while providing technical support to staff on HR and finance processes.

Key responsibilities

• Review job specifications, manage personnel requisition forms and support recruitment for staff up to Grade 9.
• Coordinate onboarding, orientation, contract management, payroll, overtime, and insurance documentation.
• Maintain HRMIS data, update organograms and ensure timely processing of promotions, transfers and disciplinary actions.
• Process bank and cash transactions, petty‑cash reconciliations, and monthly bank account reconciliations.
• Act as cash custodian, perform weekly and month‑end cash counts and prepare related reports.
• Compile monthly HR metrics, update employee contact sheets and insurance lists.
• Provide general finance support such as bank visits, document filing and tax withholding calculations.
• Promote safeguarding practices and report any duty‑of‑care concerns.

Required profile

• University degree or college diploma in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum 0 years experience; prior NGO experience is a plus.
• Strong organizational, time‑management and analytical problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of the local language is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Experience with HRMIS and other HR/finance information systems.
• Ability to use the Integra payment system.
• Competence in bank reconciliation and cash‑handling procedures.
