Protection Assistant – Monitoring

About the role

The Protection Assistant – Monitoring will support the Protection team in Mai Tsebri and surrounding areas by conducting protection monitoring in IDP sites and host communities. The role involves data collection, risk identification, referral of vulnerable individuals and timely reporting on protection trends.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct protection monitoring visits in assigned IDP, returnee and host community sites.
• Collect, encode and upload data using Kobo, Activity Info or similar tools following DRC guidelines.
• Identify individuals at risk, provide information and refer them to specialized assistance.
• Support protection officers in coordinating individual protection assistance and referral services.
• Monitor beneficiaries’ access to services and evaluate the effectiveness of referrals.
• Raise community awareness on identified protection risks and mitigation strategies.
• Maintain relationships with stakeholders to obtain daily displacement information.
• Ensure data protection and ethical protocols are applied throughout monitoring activities.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly monitoring reports and contribute to protection analysis.

Required profile

• Minimum of one year experience in humanitarian protection monitoring or assessments.
• University degree or diploma in social sciences, law, social work, international development or a related field.
• Fluent in English, Amharic and Tigrigna (reading, writing and speaking).
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience with Kobo data collection tool.
• Familiarity with Activity Info or similar online data‑collection platforms.
• Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities.
