Safety Officer (m/f)

About the role

Support mining operations in the Benishangul‑Gumuz region by promoting and maintaining SHEQ compliance across all operational areas of the mine site. The Safety Officer will conduct field inspections, identify hazards, monitor compliance and help implement initiatives to prevent injuries, incidents and environmental impacts.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily safety inspections in operational and work areas.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions and behaviours.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and proper use of PPE.
• Participate in incident, accident and near‑miss investigations.
• Support risk assessments (JHA/TRA) and implement corrective actions.
• Deliver toolbox talks and safety awareness activities.
• Monitor environmental requirements and housekeeping standards.
• Prepare inspection reports, incident records and follow‑up on corrective actions.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
• NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, OSHA or equivalent safety qualification (preferred).
• Minimum 2 years’ safety experience in mining, construction, industrial or heavy‑equipment environments.
• Fluent English and a valid driving licence.
• Willingness to work in a remote mining environment.
