Senior Project Associate – Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ethiopia seeks a Senior Project Associate to support its Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants (AVM) programme. Working under the Protection Unit, the role focuses on delivering legal aid, facilitating civil documentation, and strengthening protection services for migrants in vulnerable situations.

Key responsibilities

• Implement legal aid and protection interventions, ensuring migrants receive timely legal assistance and representation.
• Coordinate referrals with legal service providers, government counterparts, and civil registration authorities.
• Support initiatives for legal identity registration and access to civil documentation.
• Strengthen coordination with authorities responsible for justice, protection, and documentation services.
• Assist in capacity‑building activities on migrant rights, legal identity, access to justice, trafficking, and smuggling.
• Provide additional support to Return and Reintegration, Protection Emergencies, Policy and Liaison teams, and other programme units as needed.

Required profile

• School diploma with at least six years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in legal aid, migration protection, or humanitarian assistance.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Programme Officer (Protection) and the National Officer (Protection).
• Strong coordination and communication skills with government agencies, NGOs, and legal service providers.
