Business Development Lead

About the role

The Business Development Lead will translate Plan International Ethiopia’s strategic vision into concrete outcomes, aligning business development activities with the organisation’s growth and donor engagement goals. This senior position drives targeted growth, oversees high‑quality proposal development, and builds strategic relationships to expand the grant portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the operationalisation and visibility of business development KPIs.
• Turn the Business Development strategy into daily actions, ensuring strategic objectives are embedded in operations.
• Conduct regular funding pipeline and gap analyses to support evidence‑based decisions.
• Plan and manage proposal development in collaboration with Thematic Sector Leads and Program Insight teams.
• Coordinate with National Offices and consortium partners, negotiating and finalising teaming agreements.
• Supervise Business Development Coordinators, ensuring SOP compliance and fostering capacity development.
• Ensure proposals meet donor technical guidelines, rules, and regulations.

Required profile

• Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Marketing, Economics, International Relations or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in business development, grant management or donor engagement, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Proven track record in leading program design, proposal development and donor relationship management.
• Strong understanding of donor landscapes, funding mechanisms and multi‑sectoral humanitarian interventions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
