Carbon Pricing Senior Officer

About the role

The Carbon Pricing Senior Officer will lead the implementation of the Ethiopia Article 6 Readiness Project, supporting the government in developing carbon market frameworks and mitigation activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead project delivery in close coordination with GGGI Ethiopia, the Carbon Pricing Unit in Seoul, and Ethiopian government and private‑sector stakeholders.
• Design governance frameworks that meet Article 6 requirements and fit Ethiopia’s institutional context.
• Produce high‑quality project outputs, monitor progress, and ensure timely donor reporting.
• Facilitate capacity‑building events, workshops and stakeholder engagements on Article 6 concepts.
• Identify priority sectors and develop Mitigation Activity Idea Notes (MAINs) for up to three mitigation activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Environmental Engineering or related field.
• At least 8 years of experience in climate finance, green investment or related areas.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience outside the home country.
• Proven track record of managing climate‑action or finance projects.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of international carbon markets, Article 6 and related mechanisms.
• Excellent diplomacy, negotiation and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
• Ability to quickly absorb and apply technical concepts related to carbon markets.
