Deputy Country Director

About the role

The Deputy Country Director will support the Country Director in managing Cure Blindness Project’s operations in Ethiopia, ensuring compliance with donor, government and organisational requirements while overseeing programme delivery across tertiary care, outreach, primary care, MEL, advocacy, quality and research.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing and implementing multi‑year and annual strategic plans aligned with global strategy.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operations, programme budgets, impact monitoring and emergency response when needed.
• Lead senior staff, foster a positive organisational culture and ensure high‑quality programme delivery.
• Manage compliance with donor reporting, financial tracking, contracts, grants and security protocols.
• Build and maintain relationships with government officials, donors, partners and other NGOs.
• Support fundraising, proposal development and business development initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in an international NGO or eye‑care setting.
• Master’s degree in management, social science, health or related field.
• Proven ability to work diplomatically with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex political environments.
• Strong written and spoken English proficiency.
• Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time, including domestic and international trips.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Google Workspace.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
• Experience using Asana or similar cloud‑based project management tools.
