Deputy Director, Strategy & Planning – Africa (Policy & Partnerships)

About the role

The Foundation is seeking a Deputy Director to lead strategy, planning and management for its Africa portfolio, with a focus on policy, government relations and partnerships. Reporting to senior leadership, you will work across regional and country teams to ensure that advocacy and government‑engagement investments are data‑driven, strategically aligned and operationally executable.

Key responsibilities

• Provide regional and strategic programmatic leadership for the Continental Policy, Government Relations, and Partnership (PGRP) strategy.
• Coordinate with strategy, program and functional teams to align advocacy investments with the Foundation’s goals.
• Oversee portfolio management across East, West/Central, and Southern Africa, ensuring operational excellence.
• Support country‑level strategy development in Ethiopia, integrating health, nutrition, agriculture, financial services and gender equity objectives.
• Lead data‑driven analysis to inform policy shifts and partnership models.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in strategy development, policy advocacy, and government relations within the development or global health sector.
• Proven ability to manage complex, multi‑country programs and partnerships.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience using data to guide strategic decisions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
