Finance Assistant – VAT Administration

About the role

The Finance Assistant will work in the Finance Unit of the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) in Addis Ababa. Reporting to the Finance and Budget Officer, the incumbent will manage VAT administration and recovery activities, supporting the Unit’s financial operations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive reviews and reconciliations of all outstanding VAT‑related items, including XB funds, UNOAU, OSE‑HOA and PESG Sudan.
• Maintain regular engagement with the Ministry of Revenue to settle pending VAT items and facilitate timely write‑off requests.
• Support vendor payment processing, ensuring invoices subject to VAT recovery are correctly identified, tracked and recorded.
• Upload and maintain organized invoice records in Umoja Workplace and assist with cash functions as needed.

Required profile

• At least two years of experience in finance and accounting functions, with specific experience in VAT claim processing and account reconciliation.
• Knowledge of the Umoja Finance Module is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies and prepare supporting documentation for write‑off approvals.
