Finance & Budget Assistant (Temporary) – Addis Ababa

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is seeking a Finance & Budget Assistant to support its Chief’s Office in Addis Ababa. This temporary, full‑time position will assist the Head of the Finance and Budget Section with budgeting, monitoring and reporting activities across ECA’s programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation, review and revision of the medium‑term plan and Annual Business Plan, including cost estimates and budget proposals.
• Assist in drafting the annual programme budget for all funding sources and monitor expenditures against approved budgets.
• Prepare narrative and tabular supporting documents for budget submissions and performance reports.
• Conduct research and provide technical input on Umoja funds‑management issues and other budgetary matters.
• Verify requisitions, ensure correct coding of expenditures and maintain the integrity of financial databases.
• Coordinate with other finance staff to produce periodic budget reports and reconcile allocations.

Required profile

• University degree in finance, economics, public administration or a related field.
• Experience in public‑sector budgeting, financial monitoring or similar roles.
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work with internal and external clients and manage multiple tasks.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Umoja financial management system.
