Head of AU Liaison Office

About the role

The Head of the AU Liaison Office will lead the unit that connects the African Union (AU) policy organs in Addis Ababa with the AfCFTA Secretariat. Based in Addis Ababa, this senior position oversees strategy design, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of AfCFTA initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise the unit’s activities to meet performance objectives.
• Provide legal and institutional support for AfCFTA policy programmes.
• Develop and implement the AfCFTA Secretariat’s business continuity plan at the AU Liaison Office.
• Manage risk, recommend mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with AfCFTA law.
• Oversee budget preparation, execution monitoring, and financial reporting.
• Mobilize donor resources to support AfCFTA strategies.
• Represent the AfCFTA Secretariat at AU policy organ meetings and maintain strategic partnerships.
• Guide staff development and foster an inspiring work environment.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in legal, policy, or international relations within multilateral organisations.
• Proven leadership and supervisory experience, managing direct reports.
• Strong understanding of AfCFTA frameworks, AU structures, and donor mobilisation.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
