Hydraulic Engineer – Water Systems Design

About the role

Salale University is seeking a full‑time Hydraulic Engineer to join its campus in the Oromia Region, Ethiopia. The role focuses on designing, analyzing, and optimizing hydraulic and water conveyance systems that support academic research, teaching, and community projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform hydraulic calculations, water‑flow and pressure modeling using industry‑standard software.
• Design and optimize water‑supply, irrigation, drainage, and flood‑control infrastructure.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering drawings, and specifications.
• Support laboratory and field activities related to hydraulic and water engineering.
• Collaborate with faculty, students, and external stakeholders on interdisciplinary projects.
• Contribute to grant proposals and supervise student projects or internships.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, water resources management, and sustainable water use.
• Background in hydrology, including rainfall‑runoff, surface and groundwater flow analysis.
• Foundational mechanical engineering understanding of pumps, valves, turbines, and related machinery.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience conducting fieldwork, interpreting technical data, and producing clear documentation.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
• Experience in teaching, research, or community‑based water projects is an advantage.
