ICLA Technical Assistant – North Afar, Ethiopia

About the role

The Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) Assistant supports the day‑to‑day implementation of NRC’s ICLA programme in the Gerani and Sibaybi woredas of Afar. Reporting to the ICLA Project Coordinator, the role involves direct interaction with project participants and coordination with community outreach workers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and follow annual activity and work plans, ensuring alignment with NRC policies and SOPs.
• Provide accurate information, counselling and legal assistance on land, documentation and housing‑land‑property (HLP) issues, using approved scripts and templates.
• Record all ICLA activities, prepare progress reports and maintain proper filing of project documents.
• Facilitate training sessions on legal and civil documentation using NRC‑approved materials.
• Participate in assessments, monitoring and profiling exercises as directed.

Required profile

• University degree in Law, Political Science, Sociology or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a humanitarian or recovery context, preferably providing legal assistance.
• Knowledge of humanitarian principles, code of conduct and ability to work in contested areas.
• Fluency in Amharic (mandatory) and good spoken and written English.
