Legal Advisor – PPB & Dispute Resolution

About the role

The Legal Advisor will provide comprehensive legal support to the Personal and Private Banking (PPB) unit, ensuring that legal risks are identified, managed and mitigated across all bank products and services. The role also oversees the full dispute‑resolution lifecycle, protecting the entity’s interests in court and other proceedings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver legal advice to multiple business areas within PPB and assess legal risks.
• Implement processes that manage legal risk throughout the dispute‑resolution lifecycle.
• Attend court matters, manage objections, and maintain accurate records of all objections.
• Receive and evaluate dispute/recovery information to determine the merit of potential legal action.
• Research case law and precedents to inform strategy and industry knowledge.
• Control legal costs and optimise spend on legal matters.
• Manage relationships with external attorneys and service providers.
• Leverage digitisation tools for efficient document review, filing and information sharing.
• Utilise relevant technology to improve work output.

Required profile

• First degree in Law and Advocate of the High Court of Zambia.
• 4‑7 years of experience in dispute resolution and legal advisory, preferably within the legal, financial sector or a law firm.
• Proven ability to identify and mitigate legal risk.
• Minimum of 3 years of people‑management experience (direct reports not required).
