Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Officer

About the role

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer will plan, coordinate, implement and monitor MHPSS interventions delivered through the Mobile Health and Nutrition Team in targeted woredas. The role works closely with health, nutrition, protection and community stakeholders to ensure quality, timely and integrated services for conflict‑affected and vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct mental health and psychosocial assessments, provide Psychological First Aid, basic psychosocial support, psycho‑education, trauma‑healing interventions and individual or group counselling.
• Facilitate protection‑sensitive psychosocial activities for vulnerable groups and support community‑based trauma‑healing initiatives.
• Integrate MHPSS services into Primary Health Care, applying mhGAP approaches and establishing safe referral pathways.
• Strengthen capacity of community workers, volunteers and frontline providers through training on MHPSS approaches, protection principles and trauma‑informed care.
• Monitor implementation against work plans, budgets and quality standards, ensure accurate documentation and reporting, and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

Required profile

• Experience delivering MHPSS interventions in humanitarian or conflict‑affected settings.
• Ability to conduct assessments, provide PFA, counselling and trauma‑healing activities.
• Experience working with health, nutrition, protection and community stakeholders to coordinate integrated services.
• Knowledge of mhGAP guidelines and protection‑sensitive approaches.
