MHPSS Officer – Community Mental Health Support

About the role

The MHPSS Officer will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of mental health and psychosocial support services for vulnerable and conflict‑affected populations in East Hararghe Zone. The role focuses on integrating MHPSS into health, nutrition and protection platforms, improving community awareness and reducing stigma.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and monitor MHPSS activities at woreda level, ensuring alignment with work plans, budgets and quality standards.
• Integrate MHPSS services with primary health care, nutrition and protection programmes, and coordinate with government health structures, NGOs and community leaders.
• Oversee psychosocial support, Psychological First Aid, trauma‑healing activities, individual and group counselling, and capacity‑building for frontline workers.
• Collect, analyse and report monitoring data, produce monthly donor reports and ensure compliance with national guidelines and World Vision standards.
• Provide field supervision, ensure protection‑sensitive service delivery and support continuous quality improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology, mental health, social work, public health or related field from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 2 years (MSc) or 4 years (BSc) experience in MHPSS programming within an international NGO or humanitarian setting.
• Experience delivering community‑based MHPSS interventions, including PFA, basic counselling, case identification and referral.
• Knowledge of humanitarian standards such as Sphere, IASC MHPSS guidelines and mhGAP.

Required skills

• Psychological First Aid (PFA) and trauma‑informed care.
• Case management and referral pathway coordination.
• Monitoring, evaluation and reporting using MHPSS tools.
• Facilitation of training and capacity‑building for frontline staff.
