MHPSS Specialist

About the role

The MHPSS Specialist provides strategic technical leadership and coordination for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) interventions within an emergency multi‑sector project. Working across health, nutrition, protection and community‑based systems, the role ensures that MHPSS is fully integrated into the overall humanitarian response.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and monitor MHPSS interventions in line with IASC Guidelines and donor requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to sector teams and build capacity of staff and community partners.
• Establish quality‑assurance mechanisms, monitoring tools and learning processes for MHPSS activities.
• Operationalise a layered system of care, linking community‑based psychosocial support with specialised mental health services.
• Strengthen referral pathways, case‑management systems and coordination with health facilities.
• Ensure programmes are culturally appropriate, inclusive and conflict‑sensitive, prioritising vulnerable groups such as women, children, persons with disabilities and displaced populations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in designing and managing MHPSS programmes in humanitarian settings.
• Strong understanding of the IASC MHPSS Guidelines and multi‑sectoral integration.
• Experience working with community structures, health facilities and protection teams.
• Ability to lead technical teams, provide mentorship and facilitate capacity‑building activities.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of mental health and psychosocial support standards.
• Experience with quality assurance, monitoring and evaluation of MHPSS interventions.
• Competence in developing referral pathways and case‑management systems.
