Mobile Health and Nutrition Team Nurse Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Mobile Health and Nutrition Team (MHNT) Nurse Officer for Sheraro, Ethiopia. The nurse provides integrated outpatient, child health, communicable and non-communicable disease services, disease surveillance, referral, health education, immunization support and emergency response to conflict-affected internally displaced persons and vulnerable host communities in Sheraro and Tahtay Adiabo woredas. The post is based in Sheraro town, under the Shire field office, and reports directly to the MHN Team Leader.

Key responsibilities

• Provide outpatient consultations for adults and children, diagnose and manage acute illnesses according to IMNCI and national guidelines, and screen and manage communicable and non-communicable diseases.
• Provide first aid and emergency stabilization, vitamin A supplementation and deworming, and refer severely sick children.
• Support growth monitoring, immunization activities, active case search for epidemic-prone diseases and outbreak response.
• Strengthen community disease surveillance, linkages between communities, health facilities and woreda health offices, and mentor health extension workers and community volunteers.
• Maintain OPD, under-five, disease surveillance and EPI records, compile weekly and monthly reports, contribute to DHIS2 reporting, and document lessons learned.
• Ensure patient confidentiality, protect patient information, and take part in safeguarding, accountability and performance review activities.

Required profile

• Diploma, BSc or MSc in Public Health or Nursing from a recognized institution; 5 years' experience for a diploma, 2 years for a BSc and 1 year for an MSc.
• Clinical experience in health and nutrition services at hospital or health center level is essential; mobile health and NGO emergency health response experience is an asset.
• Renewed professional license.
• Excellent verbal and written English, Amharic and Tigrigna (essential).
