National Operations Officer

About the role

The National Operations Officer supports the implementation of FAO’s subregional programmes in Eastern Africa. Based in Addis Ababa, the role ensures smooth daily operations of field projects, aligning activities with local conditions, culture, and institutional frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the focal point for all operational matters of assigned field projects.
• Assist in the preparation and operational clearance of new programme and project proposals.
• Organise and provide secretarial support for project task‑force consultations.
• Coordinate timely provision of personnel, technical support services, sub‑contracts, training, equipment, and supplies.
• Participate in drafting project work plans, monitor progress, and recommend corrective actions.
• Manage project budgets, prepare revisions, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and submit progress, terminal, and analytical reports as required by project agreements.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of local conditions, culture, language, and institutions in the assigned country.
• Experience in programme development, coordination, and operational assistance.
• Ability to evaluate and improve operational environments to meet evolving subregional needs.
• Proven capability to manage budgets and produce analytical reports.
