Project Associate (Reintegration)

About the role

The Project Associate (Reintegration) supports the Return and Reintegration sub‑unit of IOM Ethiopia in delivering Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities. Based in Jimma, the role involves direct case management, coordination with government and partners, and field implementation of reintegration programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct individual meetings with eligible returnees to assess needs, develop integrated reintegration plans and monitor progress.
• Coordinate eligibility verification, assistance levels, and payment of service fees with sending missions and IOM units.
• Maintain accurate case files and update beneficiary information in the Migrant Management Operational System (MiMOSA).
• Prepare and undertake field missions, including training, local procurement, beneficiary monitoring and liaison with procurement and finance units.
• Facilitate coordination with government and non‑government partners at zonal and woreda levels to ensure timely delivery of assistance.
• Participate in the selection of implementing partners, provide guidance on IOM standards, and support community‑based planning activities.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, donor compliance documents and contribute to new project proposals.

Required profile

• School diploma with five years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Political/Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields with three years of experience.
• Experience working with migrants, refugees, IDPs or trafficking victims, providing counseling and referral pathways.
• Proven ability to establish strong working relationships with government counterparts, NGOs, international organisations and private sector entities.
• Experience in return and reintegration programmes, preferably within AVRR schemes, or in livelihood/protection programming.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organisational abilities and capacity to work independently under pressure.
