Project Coordinator & Community Facilitator

About the role

Women Empowerment–Action (WE-Action) is seeking a qualified professional to serve as both Project Coordinator (Horticulture Expert) and Community Facilitator in the Borena Zone of Ethiopia. The role combines technical horticulture management with community engagement to support women‑ and youth‑led agricultural initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, design and maintain landscape and horticulture projects, monitor plant health, and manage soil and water resources across Yabello and Gomole woredas.
• Coordinate demonstration plots, farmer field schools and on‑farm trials, and produce detailed activity reports.
• Facilitate community meetings, workshops and trainings, ensuring active participation of pastoralist and agro‑pastoralist groups.
• Collaborate with government agriculture offices, research institutions, input suppliers and private‑sector partners to promote climate‑smart agriculture.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Science or related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in horticultural production, climate‑smart agriculture, or agricultural extension, preferably in drought‑prone areas.
• Experience working with women‑ and youth‑led producer groups and pastoralist communities.
• Diploma/BA in Social Work, Agriculture or Gender Studies for community facilitation duties.
