Protection Assistant – Monitoring

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a qualified Protection Assistant – Monitoring to support protection monitoring activities in IDP/refugee sites and host communities around Dabat, Ethiopia. Working under the protection team leader and technical supervision of the Protection Specialist – Monitoring, you will conduct regular field visits, collect and encode data, and help identify individuals at risk.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct protection monitoring visits in assigned areas and record observations.
• Contribute to the development, testing and review of monitoring tools and analysis of collected data.
• Identify protection trends through key informant interviews, focus groups and direct observation.
• Use the data collection system to upload information in line with international standards and DRC guidelines.
• Provide information and referrals to individuals at risk and support coordination of individual protection assistance.
• Monitor beneficiaries’ access to services and evaluate the effectiveness of referrals.
• Collaborate with Community Based Protection Networks (CBPN) for awareness‑raising and daily displacement monitoring.
• Ensure data collection follows protection information management and data‑protection SOPs.

Required profile

• Qualified to work as a Protection Assistant in a humanitarian context.
• Ability to conduct field monitoring, interviews and focus group discussions.
• Strong understanding of protection principles and ethical data‑collection standards.
• Experience working with community‑based structures and referral mechanisms.
