Protection Assistant – Psychosocial Support (PSS)

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Protection Assistant specialized in Psychosocial Support (PSS) to join its team in Debark, Ethiopia. Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, you will help deliver community‑based and individual psychosocial activities for children, youth, adults, persons with disabilities and survivors of violence.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of structured and non‑structured PSS activities for diverse groups, including life‑skills groups, peer support, child‑friendly spaces and community‑based sessions.
• Facilitate group sessions on stress management, coping mechanisms, positive parenting and trauma awareness.
• Provide basic individual psychosocial support and psychological first aid (PFA) in line with PSS principles.
• Identify individuals showing signs of distress, ensure confidential referrals to health, protection, legal and specialised MHPSS services.
• Organise community dialogues, psycho‑education sessions and capacity‑building trainings for community leaders on PFA and basic psychosocial support.
• Maintain confidentiality and adopt survivor‑centred approaches at all times.

Required profile

• Qualified professional with experience in protection and psychosocial support activities.
• Ability to work closely with local communities, authorities and partners.
• Strong communication skills and sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable groups.
• Commitment to uphold confidentiality and survivor‑centred principles.
