Radio Operator (Access & Safety)

About the role

People in Need is seeking a Radio Operator for its Access & Safety department in Addis Ababa. The role ensures secure and confidential communications across the organization’s projects in Ethiopia, supporting both operational and emergency response activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain all security‑related communications, including satellite phones and radio equipment, in line with PIN’s security policies.
• Activate and monitor Thuraya satellite lines, keep an up‑to‑date inventory of numbers and device conditions.
• Maintain real‑time tracking of staff movements and coordinate with drivers, Access & Safety Coordinator and Fleet Manager.
• Update and verify employee contact lists in collaboration with the HR officer.
• Monitor daily security situation in project areas and relay relevant information to the Access & Safety team.

Required profile

• Reliable and detail‑oriented individual with a strong sense of confidentiality.
• Willingness to travel frequently to project sites across Ethiopia.
• Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and follow established security procedures.

Required skills

• Operation of satellite phones (e.g., Thuraya).
• Use and maintenance of radio communication equipment.
• Basic knowledge of security communication protocols.
