Senior Programme Coordinator Ethiopia

About the role

The Senior Programme Coordinator will oversee and manage Johanniter’s operations in Ethiopia, reporting to the Country Director in Kenya. The role expands Johanniter’s presence, serves as the focal point for authorities, donors, UN agencies and NGOs, and leads fundraising and networking activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of all humanitarian and development programmes in Ethiopia, ensuring alignment with beneficiary needs, national policies and donor requirements.
• Represent Johanniter with Ethiopian authorities, UN agencies, INGOs, local NGOs and donors, maintaining compliance with registration and regulatory obligations.
• Lead the identification of new programme opportunities, conduct needs and partner assessments, and develop high‑quality concept notes and proposals.
• Manage contract and grant processes, including inception workshops, reporting, and compliance monitoring.
• Recruit, supervise and support national staff and partner organisations, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
• Coordinate field activities, monitor project implementation, and ensure timely and accurate reporting to donors and headquarters.
• Monitor humanitarian developments, facilitate emergency response, and travel regularly to field sites as required.
• Promote safeguarding, safety and security standards, updating contingency plans and ensuring staff protection.
