Senior Project Associate – Immigration & Border Governance

About the role

The Senior Project Associate will support the strategic, technical and operational coordination of Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) projects in Ethiopia, with a primary focus on the regional counter‑smuggling programme. Working under the Programme Officer and National Programme Officer, the incumbent will act as a focal point for complex project components, ensuring alignment with national priorities, donor requirements and IOM standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of IBG project work plans and monitor progress against milestones.
• Coordinate legal and policy framework development, standard operating procedures and technical working groups.
• Facilitate inter‑agency collaboration and capacity‑building activities with national counterparts.
• Prepare project documentation, reports and updates for donors and stakeholders.
• Support the governance framework pillar, human‑resource development pillar, operational improvement pillar and cross‑border coordination pillar as required.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background (e.g., international relations, public administration, migration studies).
• Demonstrated experience in project coordination within migration, border management or related sectors.
• Familiarity with legal and policy frameworks governing immigration and border governance.
• Experience working with government agencies, UN bodies or international donors.
