About the role

UNICEF is seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to support its programmes in Ethiopia for a 3.5‑month consultancy. The consultant will ensure effective communication for staff and partners, especially in emergency contexts.

Key responsibilities

Interpret discussions, announcements, meetings, events and other spoken situations using the appropriate manual sign language system.
Accurately render spoken language into fluent Ethiopian Sign Language.
Provide information and orientation to staff during emergency situations.
Facilitate communication between UNICEF staff, partners and other stakeholders.
Use technology as needed to transcribe speech to text for staff members.

Required profile

Certified Sign Language interpreter qualification.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience delivering sign‑language interpretation services.
Ability to travel on official business outside Addis Ababa if required.
