Technical Advisor – Guinea Worm Eradication Program (Ethiopia)

About the role

The Carter Center seeks a Technical Advisor to support the Guinea Worm Eradication Program (GWEP) in Ethiopia. Working closely with the Program Manager, Senior Technical Advisor, and the Senior Country Representative, you will coordinate field activities, training, and surveillance to eliminate Guinea worm disease.

Key responsibilities

• Collect geographic coordinates of villages reporting cases using GPS units and update operational maps.
• Analyze clustering of cases to define sub‑district zones and determine staffing needs for Field Officers, Supervisors, and Village Volunteers.
• Develop training guidelines and schedules for field staff, community leaders, and health committees.
• Train staff on surveillance, case containment, filter distribution, ABATE® larvicide application, and animal‑related interventions.
• Collaborate with Ministry of Health and regional health authorities to implement behavior‑change communication and health education.

Required profile

• Experience in public‑health programs, preferably in disease eradication or surveillance.
• Ability to work with government partners and community volunteers.
• Strong analytical skills for mapping and clustering analysis.

Required skills

• Application of ABATE® larvicide.
• Use of forecasting line lists for intervention planning.
