Advocacy Officer – Maternity Cover (AU Focus)

About the role

Save the Children International is seeking an Advocacy Officer on a maternity‑cover basis to join its Ethiopia Country Office. Based in Addis Ababa, the role works from one of Save the Children’s three global advocacy hubs and focuses on influencing African Union (AU) institutions to protect and advance children’s rights, especially for children affected by armed conflict.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic engagement with AU bodies, particularly the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC).
• Collaborate with key AU departments – Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS), Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development (HHS), and Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) – to support their mandates and champion child protection in conflict settings.
• Promote evidence‑based advocacy for the implementation and accountability of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
• Build and maintain partnerships with AU departments, member states, civil society organisations, regional networks and development partners.
• Contribute to the development and dissemination of advocacy materials and policy briefs.

Required profile

• Right to work in Ethiopia for the duration of the contract.
• Fluency in English (language requirement).
• Willingness to travel up to 20% internationally.
• Experience in child rights, humanitarian or development advocacy, preferably with a focus on armed‑conflict contexts.
• Ability to work in a hybrid/remote setting with flexible hours.
