Associate Attorney

About the role

Bank of Abyssinia is seeking an Associate Attorney to safeguard the institution against legal risks. The role involves providing legal analysis, drafting advice for credit processes, and ensuring that all banking documents comply with current legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and prepare loan, pledge, mortgage and related contracts.
• Verify the legality of borrowers and pledgers in line with updated laws and bank procedures.
• Draft legal opinions and submit them to the Legal Credit Manager.
• Evaluate and review existing contracts for completeness and compliance.
• Oversee registration of mortgage contracts and collateral insurance policies.
• Monitor limitation periods of mortgage contracts and take timely action.
• Maintain safe custody of legal documents and prepare weekly/monthly reports.
• Track legal defects, recommend corrective measures and collaborate with credit teams.
• Provide prompt legal opinions and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• LLB degree in Law.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 2 years in the banking sector.
• Strong knowledge of Ethiopian banking law and contract legislation.
• Excellent analytical and drafting abilities.
