Backend Engineer

About the role

Resolve to Save Lives is seeking a Backend Engineer to develop and maintain digital tools that support large‑scale public health programs focused on cardiovascular health, hypertension, and diabetes. The position is remote and open to candidates based in India, Nigeria, or Ethiopia.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for open‑source health platforms such as Simple, DHIS2, and the HEARTS360 toolkit.
• Develop reliable, scalable software components and support system integrations with external partners.
• Implement data‑processing pipelines, primarily using Python, and contribute to Ruby on Rails and Java‑based applications.
• Collaborate with engineers, program teams, and health ministries to ensure high data quality and platform performance.
• Continuously improve the quality, security, and scalability of digital platforms.

Required profile

• Professional experience developing backend applications.
• Strong interest in learning new technologies and working across diverse technical stacks.
• Ability to work remotely and coordinate with international teams.
• Commitment to contributing to global health impact.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Ruby on Rails development.
• Java integration experience.
