Director of Brand and Storytelling

About the role

The Director of Brand & Storytelling will report to the VP of External Affairs and set the strategic direction for Inkomoko’s brand, communications and storytelling across East and Central Africa. This senior leader will craft a distinctive, client‑centered narrative that highlights the impact of refugee and displaced entrepreneurs, and will guide a regional team to ensure consistency and credibility in all market communications.

Key responsibilities

• Define and continuously refine a clear brand positioning rooted in client impact and credibility.
• Own the organization’s core story, messaging framework and narrative priorities.
• Ensure all communications, digital content and campaigns align with the brand narrative across Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Chad.
• Lead a team of managers responsible for brand, digital, campaigns and regional communications, focusing on alignment, quality of narrative and measurable impact.
• Measure brand strength, narrative clarity and influence, using data‑driven insights to inform strategy.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior brand, communications or storytelling roles, preferably in development or social impact contexts.
• Strategic thinker with a creative mindset, able to push beyond traditional development communications.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing cross‑functional teams across multiple countries.
• Commitment to client‑centered storytelling that amplifies the voices of displaced entrepreneurs.
