Lead Quantity Surveyor

About the role

The Lead Quantity Surveyor will oversee cost management and quantity surveying for civil engineering infrastructure projects across the Horn of Africa. Working within a UN‑led programme, you will provide expert advice, ensure accurate cost estimates and support procurement to deliver sustainable development outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct multi‑site technical assessments, interpret drawings, surveys and geotechnical data to inform design and cost decisions.
• Develop and validate high‑value cost estimates, cost breakdowns and Bills of Quantities using current market prices, labour and material rates.
• Establish standardized measurement methodologies and ensure consistency between design documents, specifications and cost estimates.
• Identify constructability and cost risks, propose mitigation measures and alternative solutions.
• Provide technical guidance during procurement, prepare tender documents and respond to bidder queries.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical issues and maintain financial control throughout project delivery.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in quantity surveying and cost management for large‑scale civil engineering projects.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams and to communicate complex cost information to senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills with a track record of delivering accurate cost estimates and value‑for‑money assessments.
