Protection and Peacebuilding Officer

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Protection and Peacebuilding Officer to lead legal aid and peacebuilding activities within the SIDA Mixed Migration project in Addis Ababa. Reporting to the Protection Project Manager, the officer will provide legal information, counselling, representation and facilitate dialogue between migrant and host communities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a work plan for legal services and peacebuilding activities.
• Conduct rapid assessments to identify legal and social‑cohesion needs of target populations.
• Disseminate information on legal rights, civil documentation and procedures through mobile protection desks and community outreach.
• Provide legal counselling, assistance and representation to beneficiaries.
• Support advocacy by analysing legal gaps and producing evidence‑based recommendations.
• Design, coordinate and facilitate structured dialogue platforms to strengthen social cohesion.
• Deliver capacity‑building sessions on mediation, conflict resolution and dialogue facilitation for community focal points.
• Develop and distribute IEC materials on legal rights and available protection services.

Required profile

• Highly qualified professional with experience in protection, legal aid and peacebuilding within migration contexts.
• Ability to work under the supervision of a Protection Project Manager and coordinate with CO Protection specialists.
• Strong understanding of international and national legal frameworks affecting people on the move.
