Protection Officer – Legal

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a qualified Protection Officer – Legal to join its mixed migration project in Jigjiga and Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. Reporting to the Protection Project Manager, the officer will deliver legal aid, information dissemination and advocacy to people on the move.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a work plan for legal service provision within the project budget.
• Conduct rapid assessments to identify legal needs of the target population.
• Provide legal counselling, assistance and facilitate representation for beneficiaries.
• Disseminate information on legal rights, civil documentation and procedures through mobile protection desks and community outreach.
• Support advocacy by analysing legal gaps, preparing evidence and recommendations.
• Produce IEC materials on legal rights and services.
• Facilitate access to legal documentation in collaboration with government authorities and humanitarian partners.
• Organise capacity‑building sessions for stakeholders on national and international legal frameworks.
• Coordinate with finance, administration and supply‑chain teams to ensure compliant implementation.

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with experience in protection or legal aid in humanitarian settings.
• Ability to work under the line management of a Protection Project Manager.
• Familiarity with international and Ethiopian legal frameworks affecting migrants and refugees.
