Protection Officer – Monitoring

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a qualified Protection Officer – Monitoring to lead protection monitoring activities in Jigjiga and Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. Working under the technical supervision of the Protection Manager, you will plan and conduct field visits, collect and encode data, refer individuals at risk, and report on protection trends.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a work plan for protection monitoring in designated sites.
• Carry out monitoring visits using standardized tools such as Key Information Interviews, Focus Group Discussions and observations.
• Collect, encode, and analyse data, ensuring compliance with international standards and DRC guidelines.
• Identify individuals with specific needs and facilitate referrals to appropriate services.
• Collaborate with sector teams and partners to integrate information gathering and maintain referral mechanisms.
• Conduct community awareness‑raising on protection risks and mitigation strategies.
• Maintain regular contact with community groups and support the development of community action plans.

Required profile

• Qualified Protection Officer with experience in protection monitoring and data collection.
• Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable populations and coordinate referrals.
• Strong understanding of international protection standards and best practices.
