About the role
The Regional Portfolio Lead will provide strategic leadership and oversight for a portfolio of emergency response and disaster preparedness programs funded by a US Government grant. Working across multiple African countries, you will ensure high‑quality implementation, strong partner engagement, and compliance with donor requirements while advancing Compassion’s mission to protect vulnerable children.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and management of a regional portfolio of emergency response and disaster preparedness programs.
- Serve as the primary regional point of contact for partner program planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and performance management.
- Coordinate with consortium members, regional donor representatives, and internal stakeholders to align activities with program objectives and donor requirements.
- Monitor program progress, deliverables, and key performance indicators to ensure timely, quality execution.
- Support design, adaptation, and continuous improvement of emergency preparedness, response, and resilience‑building interventions.
- Ensure compliance with US Government grant regulations, award terms, organizational policies, and local regulations.
- Partner with finance, compliance, and program teams to oversee budget performance, pipeline management, forecasts, and financial accountability.
- Identify and mitigate programmatic, operational, financial, and compliance risks across the portfolio.
- Contribute to donor reports, work plans, monitoring frameworks, and other required documentation.
Required profile

- Advocate for the needs of children and prioritize child protection in all decisions.
- Adhere to Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct.
- Uphold Compassion’s core cultural behaviors.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic leadership, program management, and donor compliance within humanitarian or development contexts.
- Strong risk‑identification and mitigation skills.
