Senior Accountant – Manufacturing

About the role

Wela Agro Industry Plc., a growing animal feed manufacturer, is seeking a reliable and organized Senior Accountant to support its finance function in Adama, Ethiopia. The role involves overseeing day‑to‑day accounting activities, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Support daily accounting and finance operations under the Finance Manager.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with Ethiopian accounting standards, tax laws, VAT and statutory requirements.
• Maintain the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and fixed assets.
• Develop and monitor annual budgets and cash‑flow forecasts.
• Produce production cost reports and analyse manufacturing costs.
• Handle inventory accounting for raw material, work‑in‑process and finished goods.
• Conduct monthly inventory reconciliations with production and warehouse teams.
• Assist month‑end and year‑end closing activities and liaise with auditors, banks and tax authorities.
• Support internal control improvements and review payment vouchers, journal entries and bank reconciliations.
• Mentor junior accounting staff and ensure effective use of ERP/accounting software.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, CMA or equivalent) is an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior role.
• Experience in a manufacturing or animal‑feed environment is highly preferred.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IFRS and Ethiopian tax regulations.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing cost accounting.
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
